Wedding Ring
The exchange of wedding rings is a widespread tradition globally, and is often the focal point of a wedding ceremony or celebration. Traditionally made from a simple band of precious metal, wedding rings are enormously symbolic and very precious, and it is essential they work well in combination with the bride's engagement ring.

Wedding Ring History

Dating back thousands of years, wedding rings represent an everlasting union of two people, with no beginning and no end. The ring's simple, circular shape reflects that concept of eternity, purity and commitment.

The wedding ring tradition is believed to have began in Ancient Egypt, where it was regarded that wearing rings on the extremities of the body (fingers, toes, wrists and ankles) prolonged life. Combined with the Egyptians' belief in a special vein running from the left hand to the heart, the practice of wearing rings on the left hand to symbolise marriage was born, and quickly spread to the Greeks and Romans.

As it advanced across the world, the ring tradition has taken on different significance. Wedding rings were once considered a weighty part of a woman's dowry, and marked the change in ownership of the bride from her family to the groom's. Puzzle rings that fell apart when removed and were difficult to reconstruct were used in the Middle East to ensure fidelity. Posey rings that bore special engraved messages became popular in parts of Europe, and over time the wedding ring became central to the wedding ceremonies of Jewish and Christian marriages. As couples endured long periods of separation in early twentieth century wartime, weddings rings for men became more prevalent, having traditionally been worn mostly by women.
